Assistant Deputy Commandant for Evaluations
SES J. J. Bancroft

Mr. John J. “J.J.” Bancroft is currently serving as the Assistant Deputy Commandant for Evaluations. He grew up in Oxford, New York and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1997 where he majored in History. After graduating The Basic School in 1998 and Navy Flight School in 2000, he served as a UH-1N “Huey” Pilot in HMLA-169 (2001-2005). While at HMLA-169 then Capt Bancroft served as the Logistics Officer, Airframes Division OIC, and instructor pilot. Following one tour in Okinawa (2001) and two deployments in support of OIF, Capt. Bancroft was selected to attend Expeditionary Warfare School (2005-2006). Following EWS he served as a summer academics instructor and platoon commander at Officer Candidate School (2006). Then Maj Bancroft returned to Camp Pendleton to as the Airfield Operations Officer for MWSS-372 (2006-2008). During this time period he led the transition of the company from an Airfield Ops Company to a security company in order to support a deployment to OIF and provide airfield security at Al Asad Airbase. Following MWSS -372 he transferred to Marine Corps Combat Development Command in the Operations Analysis Division (2008-2012). He was selected to attend Operations Research Systems Analyst-Military Applications Course in Fort Lee, VA and subsequently finished his Master in Ops Research through Florida Institute of Technology. As an Operations Research Analyst at OAD he worked in the Current Operations Analysis Team and deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, in support of OEF I MEF (Regional Command (Southwest)) Assessments Cell from 2010-2011. Following his tour at OAD he left active duty in 2012 and initially worked as contractor for Booz Allen Hamilton followed by a mobilization with Marine Corps Warfighting Lab’s Counter Improvised Explosive Device Division from 2012 to 2013 where he was promoted to LtCol in the Reserves. Following the MCWL mobilization he was hired as a Government Civilian back at OAD. In October 2014 LtCol Bancroft was selected to mobilize again to serve in the J-33 on the Joint Staff. During this time he served in the Homeland Defense Division as well as the Current Operations Division. At the end of the mobilization in June 2016 he was selected to deploy to Baghdad to serve in the Commander’s Initiative Group on the Combined Joint Task Force Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. LtCol Bancroft retired from the reserves in July 2018.Following the Joint Staff mobilization he returned to OAD in October 2016 until transitioning PA&E in January 2018. At PA&E he served as the Branch Head for the Warfighting Portfolio within DC P&R, where he led Force Design Affordability Analysis and Kill Web Resource Modeling. In 2023, DC P&R selected Mr. Bancroft to serve as the Assistant Deputy Commandant for Evaluations and Director of PA&E.Mr. Bancroft is a graduate of the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College Distance Education Program (2014), Joint Combined Warfare School-Hybrid (2017), the Federal Executive Institute (2021), and MIT's Seminar XXI (2023).
